Welcome to the students in the new Winter 2010 KDTC Thursday night 6PM clicker class!! We will may well have students new to dog training, new to clicker training, not new to dog training, and not new to clicker training, or any combination thereof, in this class. So it is even more important that the instructor, assistant, and other students too, get to know each student and their dog. This will allow us to individualize what we do in the class more and meet everyone's needs better.
FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE CLASS ONLY: Tell us your name and your dog's name and well as the appearance, breed or breeds of your dog. Then tell us about you and your dog's experience with dog training generally and with clicker training in particular. Finally let us know some things you are wanting to get out of class. Feel free to share whatever else about yourself or dog that you think is relevant.
So look below and click on the comments link. Type your comment as per the paragraph above in the block that will appear in the right column of the page that will open. Type the verification letters under the block as instructed. Then (if you are not logged into google) check the circle by "name/url" and type in your name and your dog's name. Then either click the orange box to publish the comment immediately or click the blue box to preview it first.

Luanne Cali (Roz Ross to help with second dog)
2 Boxers, Emmett 7 years old is laid back and sweet (watch out for your lap). He has had non clicker training and really, he's pretty good. Emmett is coming only because his little sweet, stubborn 5 year old brother has never been trained. I am convinced with clicker training an old (or somewhat old) dog will learn new tricks.
Our goals are loose leash walking - hopefully with both dogs and one person (ME). Come. Quit jumping on people when they come over or sit on a chair. Don't watch us eat (this one slays me as they have never been fed from the table).
Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Hello,I am a full-time factory worker...working 12 hour days on a rotation work week...so it is very difficult for me to take classes because my work schedule changes weekly. I want to direct my life to something more meaningful and fulfilling, like working with animals. I have approached several organizations hoping to get my foot in the door, but I was turned away because of my lack of experience. I want to help and not just as a volunteer, but as a career...I just dont know where to start or whom to talk too?
Editor--sorry no help here--this is just a web site for clicker training amateurs used mostly by a dog training club class.
Here are my "issues" about training. I have the two boxers and my friend is standing in for one of them at class. Trying to clicker train the two of them at home is proving to be very difficult.
I separate them but the one not being trained can hear the clicks and starts barking. Then the one who IS being trained hears the barking and is totally distracted. I feel like I can't put one of them outdoors because it is so cold.
The other things is that since we got home from our first night at training, one of my dogs, the brindle Maxwell, has been keeping to himself which is very unlike him. Whatever floor I am on, he goes to the other one. He isn't sick, will eat just fine, and lets me love on him when I go hunt him down. But then he leaves again. Could be a coincidence but it really bothers me.
Here is a ing about clicker training with two dogs--it will be helpful to others (of course no one else seems to using this site) but probably not your issue:

My thought about your issue---are you keeping your session very short (30 seconds, 1 minute) and doing say 2 oe 3 sessions most with one dog and then switching off. Shorter sessions more frequent switching. For dog not paying attn to you during training--train simply for paying attn---click any instance of silence and turning to you, to that a while. Be sure they are wanting the treat you have when doing that. Let me know what you think of these ideas and if you liked they how it goes.
I just read the info on the link you gave me. I think I can try a couple of those options starting Friday. I'm afraid we will not be the stars of class this week.
Hi
I'm assisting in class this session.
I have a pit bull/boxer mix. He loves clicker training! The classes before clicker training he would be done half way through the class. He would just roll over until we left. During clicker class he would make it through and then want more at home.
